Pushpa 2: The Rule | Review | Cast | Production | Release | Box office collection | In 2024, Mythri Movie Makers, in collaboration with Sukumar Writings, released the action drama film Pushpa 2: The Rule, which was written and directed by Sukumar in Telugu. In the Pushpa film series, it is the second installment and a follow-up to Pushpa: The Rise (2021). Allu Arjun plays the title character in the movie, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu, Sunil, and Rao Ramesh. It follows Pushpa Raj, a worker who now smuggles red sandalwood, as he encounters increasing danger from his adversaries, notably SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat.

In Pushpa 2: The Rule, director Sukumar’s genius is evident. In order to create a gripping cinematic experience, he skilfully strikes a balance between a mainstream entertainer and a picture full of social critique. With a combination of action-packed scenes, character-driven moments, and a moving emotional narrative, the picture manages to keep viewers captivated despite its lengthy 3 hours and 20 minute runtime.

Production

It was previously revealed that Pushpa: The Rise will be released in two parts. The first portion would be released in 2021, while the second part would be released the following year. Ten percent of the sequel’s footage was originally shot consecutively with the first part, but Sukumar changed the plot of the sequel. By July 2022, the film’s script was finished in Hyderabad. On August 22, 2022, Pushpa 2: The Rule was revealed as the official title. On the same day, the cast and crew of the movie attended the first muhurat puja ritual in Hyderabad.

Box Office Collection

  • With ₹200 crore from the domestic market, the movie made ₹280 crore on its first day of release, making it the highest-grossing Indian film to date and the highest-grossing Indian film ever. On its first day in India, the Hindi version brought in a total of ₹72 crore.
  • The quickest Indian movie to earn ₹400 crore in two days and ₹500 crore in three days was Pushpa 2: The Rule.
  • According to the Indian Express, the gross collected over the last 25 days is around ₹1,719.5 crore.
  • The Hindi version made ₹769.75 crore as on January 2, 2024. By the end of the fourth week (28 days), it had reached ₹797.70 crore.

  • The movie’s projected global gross at the end of its theatrical run was between ₹1,642 and 1,800 crore.

About

  • With the title Pushpa 2, the sequel was initially revealed in December 2021, just before the first movie came out. In August 2022,
  • it was renamed Pushpa 2: The Rule. Principal filming started in October 2022 when director Sukumar changed the plot, even though some of the movie was originally shot back-to-back with the previous one. Devi Sri Prasad created the soundtrack, Mirosław Kuba Brożek did the cinematography, and Naveen Nooli did the editing.
  • It is one of the priciest Indian films ever made, at a budget of ₹400–500 crore. It is also one of the longest Indian films, lasting between 200 and 224 minutes.
